About
I’m Nicole and I make quilts under the name Couched Liaisons.
My quilts are made with natural fibers like cotton, linen, and wool. It’s important to me that my quilts are usable, durable, washable, and ultimately biodegradable.
Couched Liaisons style is a blend of traditional quilt blocks and construction techniques with a contemporary feel, using solid colors in studies of contrast and harmony. I’m inspired by the many quiltmakers, artists, and craftspeople who continue to uphold (and reject) quiltmaking traditions, as well as painters, weavers, and collage artists.
Each project brings a new approach. I stitch by hand or machine. Some quilts take a few weeks to make, others take months of dedicated labor.
You can read more about my design process, featuring the Grid quilt, in this interview with Figma.
