Freeform — Tin

2023
Cotton, linen
61 x 72 inches
Process
A very large throw, using big freeform pieces of fabric. With this commission, which I sketched, but was otherwise improvisational, I was given the challenge of using scissors freehand, instead of quilting rulers and a rotary cutter. It gives the quilt a more handcrafted, less precise personality. I wanted the quilt to have more drape than my usual quilts do, so I used a combination of cottons and a heftier unbleached, undyed linen-cotton blend.
I couldn’t find a back I liked for this quilt, and I had extra fabric, so I made the back side the same way I made the front. It’s nice to make a double sided quilt, and feels right.
Machine pieced and quilted, hand-finished binding.
Machine quilted in a 2” grid.
